Dozens of members of Congress are asking president Barack Obama to pardon undocumented students in an effort to trow a lifeline to so-called dreamers, who are allowed to stay in the United States as long as there are in school.
60 Congress members, led by San Jose's Zoe Lofgren, wrote a letter to the president, asking him to pardon the undocumented students before the president-elect Donald Trump takes office.
According to the Congress-members, a pardon only spares the dreamers from deportation and would not equal legal residency.
For San Jose State University student Guadalupe Torres, said that, "I came to this country when I was 2 years old." "It's a very real concern," Torres said.
Priya Murthy with Services, Immigrant Rights, and Education Network, said that, "It takes a lot of courage for members of Congress to say we're doing all we can in order to protect community members who are in very real fear of deportation."
