Apple has officially launched the latest and most budget-friendly smartphone from the iPhone 17 lineup, known as the regular iPhone 17. This new version from the tech giant in Cupertino boasts an improved 48MP primary camera and features a new ProMotion display. Starting on September 19, the iPhone 17, which has a Liquid Glass exterior and operates on the latest iOS 26, will be available for purchase at a price of $799, which is about Rs 82,900. If you are considering upgrading from your old iPhone 16 to this latest version, our detailed guide can help you make the right choice. While the standard iPhone 17 resembles the earlier iPhone 16, Apple has increased the screen size from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches this year. Additionally, the base model of the iPhone 17 is the first non-Pro version to feature the ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate on its XDR OLED screen.
The device is powered by the A19 chip and features a Super Retina XDR display that can reach up to 3,000 nits of brightness, along with Ceramic Shield 2, which offers three times better scratch resistance than before. Furthermore, it now supports ProMotion and an Always-on Display, enhancing both scrolling and media viewing experiences. In comparison, the iPhone 16 had a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits and 1,600 nits for HDR content, and it came with a 6.1-inch XDR Super Retina display. The brains of the iPhone 17 are driven by the A19 chip, which includes a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU, built using a 3nm TSMC processor. The company states that this latest chip is 20 percent faster than the A18 chip used in the iPhone 16. Moreover, the iPhone 17 introduces the first square front camera sensor, known as the Centre Stage front camera. This upgraded sensor captures more detail and has a wider field of view. This improvement means users no longer need to twist their iPhones to take a landscape selfie. It also supports 4K HDR ultra-stabilized video recording.
Apple notes that the new 48MP Fusion Main camera includes “an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto” and the latest sensor boasts up to four times the resolution of the previous version. The iPhone 17 showcases the Liquid Glass design, a see-through style first shown at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) alongside iOS 26. Along with visual updates, the Camera app will receive a redesign that brings new features like Call Screening and Live Translate. The iPhone 17 can charge for up to 50 minutes with just 20 minutes of plugging in, thanks to the company’s new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter. Compared to the base iPhone 16, which had 128GB of storage, the iPhone 17 offers 256GB of storage capacity. Customers can choose from five color options: black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white.
