OpenAI has introduced an enhanced version of ChatGPT Images, which is a significant update to the company's image creation feature. This new tool is based on a main image generation model named GPT Image 1.5, which offers significant advancements in following instructions, editing accuracy, and speed of creation. The artificial intelligence company located in San Francisco announced that producing and adjusting images is now up to four times quicker than it used to be. Interestingly, these enhancements make ChatGPT Images similar to Google's Nano Banana Pro, which was also launched recently. In a post, OpenAI shared details about the updated ChatGPT Images feature. With this latest version, the company has improved the tool's ability to respond to user instructions. Users can explain their needs, and the tool will create results that better align with those requests, whether they are starting from scratch or editing existing photos. The improved accuracy is also beneficial for editing tasks where unwanted changes can now be reduced.
One of the most significant updates in the new ChatGPT Images is its speed. OpenAI claims that the new model can generate and modify images up to four times faster than before. This is especially important for users who are working on ideas, like trying out different designs or fine-tuning photo edits, as less waiting means a smoother experience. The advanced capabilities are powered by a new main image generation model, which takes the place of earlier frameworks for creating images. OpenAI mentions that it now better understands what users want, and when making changes, it only modifies the specified areas while keeping more abstract aspects, like lighting, layout, and people's looks, consistent through several edits.
OpenAI has also introduced a special Images interface within ChatGPT. This feature separates image generation from regular chat conversations and gives users a clearer area to explore visual concepts. Users can access this space from the sidebar on the app and website. Within this area, users will find many ready-to-use filters they can click on, upload an image, and edit it in that style without needing to write long and detailed prompts. The company notes that this space can also serve as a source of inspiration. ChatGPT Images is currently becoming available to all users worldwide, including those on the free plan. Additionally, developers can choose the AI model by selecting GPT Image 1.5 in the application programming interface (API). Importantly, the previous version of the image tool will also be available as a custom GPT.
