According to reports, the FBI stated on 19th January (Friday) that an agent’s submachine gun, magazines and a bulletproof vest were stolen from a vehicle earlier this month in the Bay Area.

The FBI said that it will now seek assistance and information to help them find the agent’s stolen items.

According to FBI an unknown person has theft a Heckler & Koch MP5 10mm and three magazines along with a ballistic vest from the agent’ vehicle between 6 p.m. January 8th and 10 a.m. January 9th. The theft occurred in one of these three cities Lafayette, Orinda or Concord.

The agency said in a statement that they are working with the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office to locate the stolen items “in the interest of public safety.”

The FBI declined to release additional details about the theft.

FBI spokesperson Prentice Danner said the agency was “continuing to conduct an internal investigation into the circumstances in which the weapon went missing.”

This was not the first time that FBI’s San Francisco office was looking for one of its stolen items.

In May 2016 an FBI agent reported that his 40 caliber Glock 27, badge and credentials were stolen from his car, while he was visiting San Francisco with his family. Later the FBI located the weapon,  the weapon in a home in San Francisco. Authorities said one person was arrested in connection with the stolen weapon.

In July 2015, a weapon was stolen from a Bureau of Land Management agent’s car in downtown San Francisco, which was later used in a fatal shooting of Kate Steinle 32 years old, while she was walking with her father on San Francisco's Embarcadero.
