Google Poaches Indian-American chip architect from Apple

Indian community are taking the Silicon Valley by storm. The U.S. tech companies look out for skilled Indian IT employees to run their business. It does not stop here, companies like Google and Microsoft are now being run by Indian CEOs.

Tech giants Google has recently hired an Indian-American chip architect Manu Gulati, who was working for the company’s nemesis Apple Inc., for the last 8 years. Gulati has been hired to build its own chips for the upcoming Pixels phones.

Gulati announced his new job on his Linkedin profile, stating that he now works as Google's Lead SoC Architect.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he has an experience of nearly 15 years at chip makers working with AMD and Broadcom, and has a total of 27 years of experience in the industry.

Gulati was instrumental in Apple's efforts to build custom chips for iPads, iPhones and Apple TV.

Now with Gulati part of its team, Google can have a better edge over its rival companies while it comes as a significant bow to world’s top company Apple.

"Apple filed a total of 15 chip-related patents that credit Gulati as one of the inventors. Some of these filings describe fundamental chip architecture, while others are more specific to certain applications," according to a report in Variety.

One of Gulati's patents described hardware-based security for Apple Pay that securely stores a user's fingerprint on the iPhone.

Now that Google has hired one Gulati, it is looking to hire additional chip experts to tightly control the future of Pixel hardware that will help to define the architecture of future generations of phone and tablet chips.
